Below are some frequently asked
questions about hiring the band. |
At what kind of occasions can I hire the band to perform?
The 87th Cleveland Pipe Band is available to perform at most any occasion. The band has been performing in various community parades, festivals, corporate events, family gatherings, weddings, and corporate functions in the Cleveland area for the past 15 years.
How many members will perform?
The size of the ensemble will vary, depending on the event. For smaller functions, we can arrange a single piper. We can also provide other combinations (two pipers, a piper and a drummer, etc.), a "mini-band" (4-5 pipers, two snares and a bass drummer), highland dancers (in any number) or even the full band. The complete band fields 20 - 30 pipers, and 10 - 15 drummers including snares, tenors, and bass drums. The band's performance can also be enhanced with its own group of Scottish Highland dancers. For more information, go to "About the Band".
What colors does the band wear?
The band wears the Mitchell tartan, which was once worn by the U.S. Air Force Pipe Band. The color of the band's kilt includes red, white, blue, and green, which reflect the band's American pride, and Celtic heritage. The band is very impressive in appearance, and puts on a quality performance. We believe that part of our performance is looking as professional and classy as we sound. For pictures of the band, please visit our "Photo Album".

Is the band good? Have they won any awards?
The 87th has performed at several major concert venues in the Cleveland area, including Blossom Music Center, The Nautica Stage, The CSU Convocation Center, The Palace Theatre, and the Tower City Amphitheater, just to name a few. The 87th has also opened for Rod Stewart several times, as well as other major touring acts.
In addition to performing at Cleveland area functions, the 87th competes in pipe band competitions at Highland Games in the United States, Canada, and Scotland. The band has won U.S. Pipe Band Championships in Grade III and IV, as well as many first place trophies in other competitions in the US and Canada. In 1999, The 87th Cleveland Pipe Band competed in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland and finished 22nd out of 80 bands.
Does the band only perform in Cleveland?
Though the 87th mainly performs in Cleveland and surrounding suburbs to the East and West, the band has traveled out of the area. The band will play in surrounding cities and neighboring states, but additional fees will be necessary to cover travel expenses.
How much does the band charge?
The fees will vary significantly, depending on the size of the performance ensemble, location, and duration of performance. Solo pipers and drummers are typically available at an hourly rate, with additional per-member discounts for larger ensembles. For the entire band, performance fees will depend on the above factors. Please contact us for a specific quote for your event.
